Go Team USA, eff that, Go Me!

I did it: one weekend without shopping. I went into Forever21 on Friday and American Apparel today and bought nothing. The shopping habit can and WILL be conquered! (To be fair though, Forever21 at Union Square has nothing right now.)

In other news, I'm super happy because one of my slideshows (my all-time favorite assignment so far) is the 2nd most popular slideshow on the site after less than 2 weeks (and if those damn photo rights didn't have an expiration date, I'm pretty sure my slideshow would be the 1st on that list, boo). But yay for it getting more than 100,000 pageviews!

Time to celebrate... time to shop! Oh. Right. Hmmm...

asdfgh!@#$ or.. i don't know what i'm doing with my life

I'm sure it's normal for someone right out of college to not be so sure what the hell is going on with her life. To not have a plan to follow or not know what the next step is. Right??

But see, I'm the type of person who likes having a plan, who neeeeeds to know what to expect, what's next on the to-do list, especially when it's my own frickin life. (Yes, maybe I do have a control problem, but is it so wrong to like being in control? No.)

The fact that the next 5 years are filled with question marks scare the shit out of me. To grad school or not to grad school? To do more freelance work or not? If yes, then how? and where? and when or how the hell will I get health insurance? Will I ever afford my own apartment? What the hell am I doing???

aaaAhhhh!!!!

I hope the fall brings me back to my more overachieving self. The one who spends more hours hard at work than staring at the TV. But for now, I will spend the day watching the Olympics (goooo Michael Phelps!) and hope the laundry gets done somehow. And maybe make a to-do list.

my weekend of sin

I did something I wasn't supposed to do. Twice.

I shopped.

But, one could argue that well-fitting jeans are hard to find, and so when one finds such a pair, ON SALE at that, one MUST buy it. One can also argue that bras are necessary, and so when a good pair goes on sale for two for one, one MUST take advantage.

I can't rationalize my buying a JCrew shirt, but it was on sale too. So really, I didn't fail at the no shopping thing by thaaat much.

I lasted a whole week.

I suck at this no shopping thing.

Going cold turkey was never a good idea for anything anyway.

Ugh.

having a credit card bill to pay makes you realize something...

that spending money on crap you don't really need is not such a smart idea. I've had my credit card for more than two months and I've managed to consistently spend about $300 a month on clothes, shoes and bags. That's about a week of pay a month. Not on food, not on transportation, not on groceries. Just on frivolous, spontaneous things (granted, they are pretty things...).

And so for the month of August I will not be shopping. At all. No new clothes, no new shoes, no more bags.

And the fall collections are just starting to go on the shelves! Boo.
